Dry skin? Avène to the rescue!

*Gifted but opinion always 100% my own

Flatlay of the Avene Cleansing Oil - taken by Cinmi

Imagine there's a skin/body care product that can be used for the whole family so you don't have to have about 100 bottles of skincare fighting for space in the bathroom... enter Avène XeraCalm A.D. Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil!

Suitable for all ages and designed for dry to very dry skin, I was kindly gifted the 400ml cleansing oil to give it a good test.

About Avène

Named after its home region in France, Avène is a French skincare brand that has a long history dating back to the 18th century, when the first Thermal Spring Water baths welcomed patients with dermatitis, eczema and other skin conditions to bathe in the rejuvenating waters of the region's natural hot springs. Avène products have been developed and bottled by the Avène Dermatological Laboratories since 1990.

Avène products pack the natural restorative properties of the thermal springs into a range of skincare products, including moisturisers, cleansers and sun protection creams. Many of Avène's products are developed with help from the Avène Water Research Centre, where thermal spring water in Avène is studied in order to identify the key healing properties of the natural thermal springs of Avène. One of the brand's most popular lines is the Avène skincare combination of natural and synthetic ingredients to effectively neutralise and cleanse blemishes and clogged pores.

The Cleansing Oil

This product retails at £16.50 for 400ml and can be purchased via Boots, Lookfantastic, Escentual and more.

  • It's a product made for everyone, as it is fragrance-free so it is safe for infants and even those who suffer from eczema.

  • This oil has multiple purposes - whether it is used on your face as a daily cleanser, a shower gel, or just add a few plumps into your bath to soften the water... it does a heck of a lot!

  • It cleanses and replenish at the same time - it hydrates the skin for up to 24hrs, helping reduce skin dryness and itching sensations from the very first use.

  • The oil texture seals in moisture and helps protect against the drying effects of water.

  • Formulated with Cer-omega, skin-like lipids that act on dryness and restore the skin's barrier.

  • It is soap-free.

My thoughts

It's no secret that I love a multi-use product.

• I love that on my face and body, it doesn't create an unnecessary amount of bubbles. A plump dispenses just enough for my face so I wouldn't waste any product.

• Some face/body wash can make your skin feel a bit too squeaky. It is truly gentle and doesn't leave that horrible fraction-y feel to your skin.

• Despite being a cleansing oil, it is far from oily. It feels velvety, which is a bonus to me.

• Adding to the bath (suggested usage: 5 plumps), it doesn't make the bath oily or slippery, which is fantastic. Sometimes you add bath oil in and the water no longer become suitable to wash your hair and leave residue. This doesn't do that.

• My skin doesn't feel itchy after I get out of the bath, however I still stick to my normal body lotion after for good measure.

• So far, about a few weeks' use, I have no skin reaction - although my skin is never sensitive to begin with.

It's worth noting that at time of writing, this product was on sale and was down to £13.50, so if you are sceptic, it may be worth checking a few websites to get the lowest price to get your money's worth.
