Helping your lips and skin stay hydrated throughout the seasons – Lanolips

Updated: Mar 6, 2022

I have been so excited about writing this blog post. I see Lanolips everywhere and read great reviews about them but finally have the chance to give their products a go!

Flatlay of three of the Lanolips products with flowers in the background.

About Lanolips

Lanolips is an award-winning Australian brand and their products are made with Lanolin - a deeply moisturising oil naturally occurring in sheep’s wool, humanely (& cruelty-free) sourced from sheep & their farmers. This unique ingredient mimics the skin’s own oils to heal and hydrate and is so safe doctors recommend it to treat burns and for nursing infants. It allows skin to self-hydrate from within, but also acts as a breathable skin barrier. It also holds up to 4x of its weight in moisture.

Their products are alternative to petrolatum-based lip balms and that they don’t use parabens or artificial fragrance, sulfates and other nasty stuff that you may find in cheap drugstore products.

Did you know that Lanolin is a natural, renewable and sustainable resource also? And the fact that they support their local farming community (AU and NZ), isn’t that great? So it is basically beauty without guilt!

The exciting part

I was kindly gifted 3 of their products, which all are multi-purpose!

  • The Original 101 Ointment (£10.99/15g)

This tube of balm isn’t just for your lips. In fact, it can be used on skin patches, cuticles, elbow and more. And as it’s safe to use during pregnancy and for nursing mothers and babies, it truly is a product for all ages.

I love that it is rich but not greasy, which would have been a big no-no for me. A little goes a long way, so despite it being a 15g tube, you can have this for a while depending on your usage. In fact, the little dot I have in the pictures would have been enough for my lips and cuticles! It feels medium weight to me so I’d say it can be used all year around.

It doesn’t really smell or anything so definitely no sneezes when you apply this!

One thing, as it’s winter and I left the tube on the table overnight, it took a bit of strength to squeeze the product out. However it melted upon contacting my skin, so no troubles here.

  • Lemonaid + Lanolin Lip Treatment (£8.99/12.5g)

Yes, you use lip balm. But it shouldn’t just stop there. Give your lips the love they deserve by using lip scrub and treatment regularly. The Lemonaid Lip Treatment has added lemon oil making it smell so lush but also gently exfoliates too. Plus, it has vitamin E which is an anti-oxidant. Oh and, it has added shimmer too so you can wear this during day time and add a fun touch. I think you can have your regular lipstick on and apply this on top to ‘hack’ your own lip colour.

Its texture is quite rich but a bit lighter than the ointment, making it a dream to blend. Again, the tiniest dab goes a long way so this tube can last you a while.

One thing, as it isn’t used as a lip balm, this is slightly less moisturising than the original ointment but nonetheless I still really like it.

  • Tinted Lip Balm – SPF 30 (£8.99/12.5g)

This is possibly the one product that I love the most, and hence saved it for last! I don’t do a lot of makeup to work – in fact, I usually go out with brows, concealer and lip balm because sleep is more important! With tinted lip balm you can look like you’ve made an effort without looking over-the-top (and not having to add anything extra to your routine). Because it’s sheer so it is incredibly wearable and should suit most, if not all, skin tones. Annnd did I say it has SPF? SPF should seriously be worn all year around. The SPF bit is such a nice addition to really make this product appealing.

Unlike the original ointment, it has added shea butter and vitamin E so it has extra added benefits. However it is non-greasy and tacky. As it isn’t a lipstick, this product is something that you will want to re-apply after lunch.

Available in 5 shades so you can pick one that you like the most (or all). Pictures show the shade “Rhubarb“.

Pro tips

To prep for the perfect pout, why not use the Lemonaid Lip Treatment to exfoliate and smooth, then using the Original Ointment to create the perfect canvas, and then add a touch of life with the Tinted Lip Balm? 1-2-3, ready and go!
