Nyx Fat Oil Lip Drip - Is It Worth the Hype?

I broke my 'no buying makeup' ban when I went in town over the weekend. I went into Superdrug to grab some toiletries but I couldn't help it and finally bought the Nyx Fat Oil Lip Drip when I walked past their counter...

Nyx Lip Drip Fat Oil - flatlay - taken by Cinmi

I have been seeing it all over social media so what the heck, ey. It was a bit disappointing as the shades I would usually go for were out of stock, but regardless I picked up two different shades to test them out.

About the products

  • Nyx Cosmetics are cruelty-free.

  • These little tubes are 4.8ml and are £7.49 each. Come with a wide applicator.

  • What the website says: ''HELLO to Fat Oil! Lips pumped with FAT perks. FAT shine. FAT hydration. FAT colour. With easy application using our FAT applicator. One swipe away from comfortable wear, non-sticky texture and gloss-like shine. Available in 8 shades. Swipe on lips with fat applicator, build-up FAT OIL up as desired.''

  • Infused with Squalene, Raspberry and Cloudberry Oils.

Swatches

The two shades that I bought are:

  • Newsfeed (red ish)

  • Follow Back (Coral ish shimmer)

My thoughts

I am in two minds about these. I am not obsessed with these, but I do really like them. Here are some points to consider:

Pros:

  • Very comfortable to wear. Not completely weightless however.

  • Did not dry out my lips.

  • I was at first worried that the colours will be too 'in your face' but they give out a nice sheer tint.

  • 'Follow Back' is not as bold as I thought, and it didn't turn me into a glitter ball.

Cons:

  • Not really an oil, more a gloss/glaze type of thicker consistency.

  • It is not truly non-sticky. It is however 'a lot less stickier' than a traditional lip gloss.

  • If you apply too much, it bleeds over.

  • Shiny at first but overtime it dries out to a light sheen.

  • Not too sure if I will want to layer on as it may bleed over and the pigment may be a blob on your lips and transfers into your natural lip lines.

  • If you apply too much it gets slightly 'heavier'.

  • Although it boosts 12-hour hydration, you will most likely re-apply 4 times during that period. If you are a tea drinker (or go on a night out), you will be touching it up a lot! Even if you don't drink anything but chat with people, your lips movement will dull the shine. On average you would want to reapply within 2.5 hours (that is with one cup of tea in between).

I have only worn those on their own so not sure how they'll perform layered on lipsticks/liners.

So here are my thoughts! If you pretend this is a gloss, it gets a thumbs up. But if you buy it and think, oh, this is an oil, you may be disappointed.

If you have tried it, do let me know your views in the comments below. If you are looking to try these, I hope my review has helped you decide.
